Josie Randle talks Mixerfest and More

Josie Randle is the frontwoman of pop punk band Eye the Realist but band practice isn’t the only thing she does with her spare time. She can be found booking national tours, supporting friends in the local sceene, or even throwing a festival! California Mixerfest 2015 in Long Beach, California was no exception. By the Barricade was on site for this years Mixerfest and teamed up with It’s Just Joey for some exclusive interviews with every band. We even reached out to Josie herself to find out what makes her tick, and some behind the scenes info from this year’s festival. Check it out in the interview below!

California Mixerfest 2015The Second California Mixerfest was at Dipiazza’s last weekend. Are there any plans for the festival’s return next year?

Josie Randle: This March we had Survive This! headline and 3 months later we had Long Beach’s own, Hearts Like Lions in July. I would do one in October but I’ll actually be out on tour with my band Eye the Realist, so we will probably have our next mixer in January.

What was the biggest challenge you faced with this year’s Mixerfest?

Josie randle: It was trying to please all the bands no matter what. Making sure every band got to play. We had 13 bands and just me running it.

What do you think was the best part about the fest?

Josie Randle: The people that came out!

This year’s lineup was extremely diverse and packed with both local and international performers. Is having more than one stage at future events a possibility?

Josie Randle: Everything’s a possibility. We are trying to first build this local scene and get some solid bands coming through Long Beach. We have loads of long beach bands that all need a place to play and a chance to meet people that are doing exactly what everyone else is doing and at different levels. As a person in a touring band I love being able to give touring bands a place and a chance to play a show in our local scene and gain exposure.

PROMO-JOSIEI’ve heard when you’re not booking shows your band Eye the Realist has been hard at work on a new release. Can you tell our readers anything about that?

Josie Randle: Ya! We just finished a new single which we should be releasing this August 2015. Then we will be hitting the road in October for a few weeks touring the West Coast and the South West.

What differences can we expect with the new release compared to From Truth And Time?

Josie Randle: The new release will have more aggressiveness and dynamics. The new single is just the tip of the iceberg and has a sick ass bridge you can throw down along with a catchy chorus.

Is there anything else you want to say to the readers of By the Barricade?

Josie Randle Stay involved with your local music scene!
