Behind the Fallen Interview

Southern California sensation Behind the Fallen has been making waves in their local scene since 2012 and show no signs of stopping. The band’s desire to fight against bullying has led them to create one of the most original and interesting music videos in recent memory. By the Barricade reached out to Behind the Fallen to find out what helps them continue to defy expectations.

Behind the Fallen Promo 1By the Barricade: The music video for “You’re Just a Friend” really caught my eye. What was the video creation process like?

Behind the fallen: It was a really fun process. We we’re lucky enough to work with a really talented director who wanted this video to be as good we wanted it to be. We feel like it perfectly captured the song, and it actually came out pretty comical as well. Everyone worked really hard, and we’re really proud of the way it turned out.

By the Barricade: Do you think bands nowadays put the same emphasis on music videos as they used to in the days when MTV played them?

Behind the Fallen: Back then a music video could be the first impression to a new audience, so bands went out of their way to make the video stand out. In today’s digital era, there’s so many different avenues to attain music from new artists, it just seems like music videos lost a lot of their luster. We definitely wanted ours to stand out, and it’s funny because you can actually catch our music video on MTV.

Behind the Fallen Album CoverBy the Barricade: “We Travel Alone” is my favorite song off Pages of the Past. Can you tell me a little more about the song?

Behind the Fallen: We Travel Alone was written for those afraid to take that next step in the pursuit of their dreams. Bands hit the road for long periods of time leaving everything they cherish at home and are left to hope that it’ll be there when they get home. We make huge sacrifices but in those sacrifices we become that much closer to being exactly where we’ve worked so hard to be. However, the case is the same with every song ever written, once it’s out in the world it’s open to interpretation and the meaning the artist intended to get across, in some cases, no longer is the same. So basically like the song says, “Live your life for now because we all die young.”

By the Barricade: Now that Behind the Fallen has released Pages of the Past, and your first music video what is the next milestone the band is striving for?

Behind the Fallen: Now we’re trying to break out of the local scene and become a national act, which can be a difficult feat. We’ve had a lot of great responses from all over the country on our music and we’re eager to get out from state to state to show them what Behind the Fallen is all about.

By the Barricade: If you could rewrite some pages of your past, what would you change, and how might it effect you today?

Behind the Fallen: there’s too much to put down here. Well we all try to live without regrets, but that almost seems impossible to do right? I think Kyle regrets moving down here from Indiana to join our band, I’m sure he’d do it different haha.

By the Barricade: I noticed Behind the Fallen is striving to make a difference to people who were bullied, or cast aside. Have you been striving to make a difference with any particular causes outside of your music’s themes?

Behind the Fallen: Of course, we’ve been part of many charity events from fundraisers to help out cancer patients, to breast cancer walks and more. We want our audience to know that no one ever is alone in their struggles, regardless of the situation.

By the Barricade: Last time I saw Behind the Fallen was Get Busy Living Fest. Have you been busy since then? If so, what have you been up to?

That was a really fun show to be a part of, sharing the stage with all the great bands on the bill was a blast. We always try to keep busy, and we’ve been hard at work on gathering the pieces to make sure we have a successful 2015, so far we’ve played a sold out show in Hollywood with Attika7 and are in preliminary discussions for things we can’t really mention yet, but we are really excited for.

By the Barricade: Do you have plans for new music or releases?

Behind the Fallen: We do, we are constantly writing, and we are sitting on what we feel like are really great songs. We’ve talked about recording new music at some point this year, but we haven’t set an exact date just yet.

By the Barricade: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers of By the Barricade?

Behind the Fallen: We’ve seen some of our favorite bands interviewed here and we’re honored to be a part of it. We have some big things planned for our fans this year, so keep up with us and be a part of the shenanigans we’re going to get into!
