Dreamshade’s New Album Features Vocals From 517 Fans (And It’s Awesome)

Swiss metal band Dreamshade are releasing their fourth album A Pale Blue Dot on March 5th. The album mixes inspiration from metal and post hardcore icons putting it into a league of its own. An interesting note is that the album’s final track “Save This” features gang vocals from 517 fans. The band used WhatsApp to include fans from 70 different countries. The special collaboration may not be available yet but Dreamshade has just dropped the new song “Shanghai Nights.”

Vocalist Kevin Cali said the following about “Shanghai Nights”:

“The idea of the song came out while we were touring China last year. We’ve been there three times before and wanted to create a rock ‘n’ roll-ish track about life on tour: the travels, the shows, the relationship with our fans, and the party.

The song is about that nostalgic moment we live when the tour is over and it’s time to go back home. We always feel a hole in our chest on our way back, the type of feeling you get when you leave someone you love. We sit on the plane and think about all the people we’ve met, with the awareness that what we do is not only important to us but involves an ever wider circle of people.”

Since part of our life is on the road, we tried to capture that very essence in a poetic way to help the listener live through our experience. Me and the boys come from a very small town in southern Switzerland and traveling the world gives us experiences that we could hardly live otherwise. We really can’t wait to meet and hug all of our fans at shows like we used to do!”

More About A Pale Blue Dot

The album includes two features — New York-based Italian pop singer Rose Villain and Darkest Hour‘s John Henry. A Pale Blue Dot was mixed and mastered by Grammy-nominated producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, who also worked on the band’s 2013 release The Gift of Life.

The album’s title is inspired by Carl Sagan’s book Pale Blue Dot.

“We were looking for something that could hold the meaning of both the importance and the futility of certain values as we know them. A distant look at humanity and our planet as a whole, as everything that’s important for us on Earth seems just so insignificant in the great scheme of things, compared to the universe. Selfishness and individualism have no place in the bigger picture, and this makes more and more sense to us as we wrote the record just before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of it was recorded and produced during lockdown, with a very different approach and experience than what we’re used to.”
