The Bunny The Bear – Food Chain

The Bunny The Bear PromoThe Bunny The Bear are a post-hardcore band from Buffalo, New York formed in 2008. You might recognize them from the animal masks they wear on stage at every show. Currently The Bunny the Bear have two core members: Matt Tybor, ‘The Bunny’ and Chris Hutka, ‘The Bear.’ The band cycles through alternate members whilst touring. Matt Tybor is the band’s songwriter as well as the only founding member who is still active. After recruiting Hutka the pair headed out on tour with a few new bandmates.  Behind his bunny mask, Tybor performs a wide range of both guttural screams and clean vocals. Hutka, on the other hand, sticks to putting together a clean and refined vocal backdrop to fill out the band’s lyrical content. The Bunny the Bear are currently on a roll and show no signs of stopping. The band has released five albums over their 5-year history.

The Bunny The Bear Food Chain Album ArtworkThe band’s latest installment is Food Chain. This album clearly shows the diversity in Matt Tybor’s songwriting ability as he has implemented the genre of dubstep in the track, “Pale Green Eyes,” giving a new twist to this somewhat outplayed genre. “First Met You” shows the well-blended vocals of Tybor and Hutka and demonstrates why many of the band’s fans enjoy them. As for the rest of the album, you can count on listening to a much heavier barrage of Tybor’s heartfelt lyrics. This album shows Matt Tybor writes music with a tremendous, heavy heart and loves what he does. This most recent studio album is a combination of synthesizers and guitars which mix well with its diverse range of vocals. Overall Food Chain is a lot softer compared to the band’s previous albums but demonstrates Tybor’s growth from screamo kid to vocal ninja.  Food Chain is packed with all the energy fans of the band have come to expect. It even includes three remastered tracks from the band’s debut self-titled album. The three re-mastered tracks are “So Smooth, So Appealing,” “Flying like a Bird,” and “What Shade We Make” “What Shade We Make” is only available on the deluxe edition, but it is worth the extra cash for it further shows the improvement of the band’s sound since their humble beginnings. One can only hope that The Bunny The Bear will continue their impressive annual album trend. The band’s current tour with Mindless Self Indulgence is a perfect opportunity to show off their new refined sound while keeping their old school energy.
