Tartar Control: We Forgive You Review

Tartar Control We Forgive You CoverTwo Mormons and a sex crazed robot may seem a bit jarring but Tartar Control are back in full effect with their sophomore album We Forgive You. Powered by prayer, the punk rock missionaries crammed more than a fair share of vulgar, blasphemous, aggression and laughs into the 21 track release. Lasting just under an hour Robert Selander, Sean Hart and Robot take NOFX’s style of condescending and un-sugar coated approach towards common culture to the DMV, Shakey’s Strip Club, and the backs of dinosaurs in their hilarious hardcore fashion.

With lyrics like; “My God’s cock is the size of the universe. My god’s cock has pubes like galaxies. My god’s cock rains lightning bolts. My God’s cock made you and me” Tartar Control flips stereotypical religion on its head. As you might have guessed, with tracks like “My Gods Cock”, “Prayer at the DMV”, and “Cubicle of Love” it’s safe to say most of Tartar Control’s catalog won’t make it into Sunday’s hymn book. However We Forgive You is now essential in this writer’s Sunday playlist right above Bad Religion’s Christmas album.

tartarcontrolheaderTartar Control is far more than just a gimmick. We Forgive You is an enjoyable, raw, fast paced, and hilarious ride. From the opening hymn to the closing storyteller credits the only time Tartar Control slows down are during their interlude style skits highlighting Robot’s shenanigans and the band’s naive antics.

We Forgive You seems like prayer powered fever dream on overdrive that consistently defies expectations. Songs like “My God’s Cock”, “Don’t Think About Your Dad”, and “Traffic Jam” are catchy enough to quickly get stuck in your head. If you are a hardcore fan, or just want a good laugh, do yourself a favor and pick up Tartar Control’s We Forgive You. If you don’t you may not forgive yourself.
