Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath, and Beartooth Review

The sold out American Nightmare Tour on March 28th was one for the books. Bring Me The Horizon, Underoath, and Beartooth took hundreds of people by storm. This night was a special treat with three bands that all seemed to work together so, incredibly well.

Beartooth kicked the night off with a bang jumping into “Aggressive”, the title track on their latest album. Even from the outside of the venue, Beartooth could be heard tearing up the stage. This writer’s high hopes were met with amazement. The entire floor was moving within the first few songs and it seemed like everybody present knew the lyrics to “In Between”. When the band left the stage after their seven-song set, and it was obvious that everybody wanted more.

Since Underoath’s triumphant return at last year’s Self Help Festival in San Bernardino, CA, many people have found themselves enjoying songs they grew up with. The nostalgia was obvious when the band took the stage that left this writer with a similar feeling to Motion City Soundtrack’s final tour. Underoath’s set included four favorites off of their 2004 album, They’re Only Chasing Safety, along with five songs from Define The Great Line. During all of this, the crowd was pleasantly rowdy with no feet left standing still. It was nice to see just how many people were still overjoyed by Underoath’s return.

Bring Me The Horizon ended the night with one of the most amazing shows that they have ever put on in Kansas City. The set started off with “Happy Song” and plenty of confetti. The initial energy alone set the bar high for an amazing show. Since the band’s tour in October of 2015, BMTH has been perfecting their craft to create one of the most spectacular shows in the scene. Between their lighting, projections, set list, and crowd involvement, Bring Me The Horizon seems to be fully incapable of providing a show experience that is anything less than amazing. Somehow, the British group never fails to include older favorites in their sets, such as “Chelsea Smile”, “Antivist”, and “Shadow Moses”. These songs seemed to always be met with enthusiasm. Many fans are anticipating what comes from the band after the huge success of “That’s The Spirit”.

Overall, Bring Me The Horizon knows how to put on a fantastic show, and they know just who to bring with them to get the party started. The American Nightmare Tour was one of the best tours to tear through Kansas City! This writer is gong to be anxiously waiting for their next return to the area for sure.
